Kelley tries out the IGIGI Nencia lace cocktail dress and the Savannah in jacquard

I needed some new dresses.  I have been accepted to some more upscale events for my handmade business. This opportunity could not have come at a better time. I was so lucky to have been given two dresses, for free, to review by Igigi. One of my big events I plan to wear one of the dresses for is the indie craft show craftstravaganza  .  I was sure which dress I was going to wear, but after trying on the second dress, I am so unsure.  The 2nd dress has POCKETS.  Yes, you read that, pockets!

Kelley IGIGI Nencia in Flamingo

My first dress was the Nencia Cocktail Dress in Flamingo .  I did a little poll on my Facebook fan page for my business, and this is the dress my customers picked out for me to wear.  Now, I am horrible at sizing.  I almost always choose a size or two, too big.  And, I could have probably sized down one size for this dress, but we made it work.  Being a designer of sewn accessories, I understand construction and this dress is very well made.   All seams are all reinforced, and well placed for my body type.  It is lined, which is nice for flow and movement.  The lace isn’t stiff and scratchy, it is really soft.  All hems and finishing are perfect.

I liked the fit of the dress.  I have a short distance between my shoulders and breast-line.  So, I tend to take dresses up, in the shoulders.  I had to do that with my wedding dress, my bridesmaid dress for my sister’s wedding, and sometimes v-neck shirts.  This was no different, but I made it work without futzing with it, yet.  I would probably make it a bit shorter.  I am 5’8”, and my legs look stubby when dresses fall in that mid-calf region.  That is just a matter of personal preference.  All in all, I loved this dress.  It is bright.  I love the color combination of the coral under the blue lace.  It is fun, and it moves nicely.   This will be worn.

I styled it with a headband that I made and some jewelry from my friend.  I chose to pair it with a cream cardigan and wide belt.  I like the fun mod vibe of the pairing.  I also showed the dress without the cardigan.

IMG_2609The second dress is the Savannah Dress in Carbon Jacquard.  I put this dress on and I loved it, immediately.  Again, very well constructed, and I love the finishing on the hemline.  This dress has some stretch to it, although it looks like it shouldn’t.  I love the movement of the fabric.  The jacquard looks like it is going to be stiff, but it wasn’t at all.  It is comfortable, and cute, and I will be wearing this again, and again.

I should have gone down one size on this.  It looks good on me, but I would have been comfortable with a little less room on top.  Again, that also has to do with my shoulder/chest region being short.  I paired this with some bright earrings and a red pair of cute ballet flats and some footless tights.

I can’t lie, I LOVE the pockets. You can’t really see them, which is nice, and they are big.  I will be wearing this dress to events for my business.  It is neutral in color, which is awesome for accessorizing, and I won’t have to wear an apron to hold my phone, etc…. because of those lovely pockets.  Did I mention that I like the pockets?  The dress does show off my breasts, which is not how I dress normally.  But, at some point I need to embrace that.  I just turned 40, maybe this will be the year.  The belt is cute, but it is a bit small for the fit of the dress.

Now, the big issue is which one will I wear to my event in May.  We shall see.

  1. Pockets–that’s a rare treat in a dress! Love the footless tights and pop of red you did with Savannah.

I’m wanting the Luella Tunic in Emerald, which I think would be great for work. (Pretty as the Igigi dresses are, they’re a bit fancy for my office.) Though seeing Savannah with tights, maybe that would work for my work. Hmmm…

  2. I’m not a huge fan of all over lace dresses, especially for day time events, but I LOVE that dress with the cardigan and belt. It’s so cute!!

I want the Dolmani top coap for spring/fall. And I want the Greenwich top in every color. I have one and I love it, you can throw it on and look great with no effort.

  3. I just adore this carbon dress, totally see myself in it!

  4. That Nencia dress is gorgeous on you, and I love how you added the cardigan and belt! I’ve got my eye on the Thalia gown in Rose Garden that’s in the new Look Book, or the Jadyn Maxi Dress. Either one would be perfect for my high school reunion this summer!

  5. You look amazing! I would also like the Nencia dress…I love the colors! I also like the Tiffany dress in either pink or jade. Too many social events this summer and not enough outfits for them!!!

  6. Wait. IGIGI is making dresses with pockets?! They need to do that more often! You look lovely in both dresses!

I’ve been eyeing the Chelsea Dress in Fuego. I’m hoping to wear it for my wedding reception – it has some white, but the colorful print means it will actually work in my wardrobe.

  7. Love the carbon dress — what a beautiful warm cocoa color!

I am looking for the Janus Dress in Pink Pindot or one of the gorgeous maxi dresses — perfect for summer parties. 🙂

  8. I absolutely love both these dresses on you! Well chosen, and your particular comments on short upper torso fit are very helpful to me. I feel like I know your personality just from seeing you in both garments.

I would love the Chelsea dress in Ombre floral, because I can see myself wearing it at least once a week! I’m currently an event coordinator and the ladies who attend the networking event I coordinate would love this look, and so would my boss!

  9. I like the Fayette dress or the Nencia Cocktail Dress.

  10. I love both dresses on you. I want the Hayleigh dress or the Wren wrap dress for a fundraiser I have to attend.

  11. The Savannah looks so awesome on you! Really like it with the leggings and belt.

I would very much like to get me one of the Domani Top Coats.

  12. Hard to decide, but I really like the second one, Savannah, and perhaps it is because of the pockets or the grey look to it. Beautiful, both dresses are.

  13. You have a great eye for styling an outfit. You took two off-the-rack dresses and made them your own with accessories. I learned something from you. Thanks! I would love to win the gift certificate and I would get the Deora dress for brunches, and business meetings. I have a lot of designer clothes in my closet that are good for NYC daytime, but not necessarily suburban meetings, and I could use some more of those. Deora tones down the glam without sacrificing style.

  14. I love the Hayleigh dress in Midnight Blue – I’ve been coveting it for a while!

  15. I think the Savannah Dress in Carbon Jacquard looks absolutely fabulous on you. (Note to self: my next job should be “Official Name-Bestower of Igigi Dresses.”) The color is great for your complexion. It looks so good, in fact, that after seeing the dress on you and on another Weetacon reviewer, I moved the dress into my Wishlist on the Igigi website!

That being said, here in southern Arizona we are moving out of our paltry Winter season (i.e., one sprinkle of snow in ten years) and into our one-month hiccup of a Spring – and then into half a year above 100 degrees F. So my chosen dress is the Olympia Maxi Dress in mint green because it’s the lightest looking dress on the Igigi website right now and I can imagine wearing it when it’s hot enough outside to fry an egg on asphalt. 🙂

  16. I really love the Cadence Dress in Black/Ivory (http://www.igigi.com/plus-size-dresses/cadence-dress-in-black-ivory.html). I would wear it to my college graduation in May (ahhhhhh, I don’t want to grow up). A lot of my friends are talking about graduation dresses, and I think it’s a bit much to make a big deal about it, but I thought this dress was really classic looking and looks like it would be flattering for my apple shape, and I would love to wear it 🙂

  17. I would love the Olympia to welcome in spring and be a show stopper as I run my errands around town!!!

  18. I love the dress with pockets. pockets are “sooo” Kelley. Paired with the leggings & red flats….fabulous. The only thing I would change is using a wider belt, otherwise this outfit ROCKS!!!

I would love to have the Hayleigh Plus Size Dress in Black or the Janus Plus Size Dress in Pink Pindot. My nephew is getting married this fall & I think this would really work for me.

  20. The pockets on the Savannah are totally why I had it on my short list. So I’m thinking that I just might have to buy it and wear it to work, the farmers market, wherever.

  21. Oh, that Nencia dress is so pretty in person and you just rocked it! But I am loving all the maxis they have this year and am seriously craving either the Maddalena or the Jadyn to wear on our planned Costa Rica vacation in the fall.

  22. I love the cream cardigan you paired with the first dress. I honestly didn’t give that dress a second thought when picking my dresses, but that pairing really makes it look fun and happy!

Personally, I’m looking to expand my workwear collection, I would love to own the Monroe Skirt in Navy, and the Belmont Skirt in Ebony Damask. A Mena Jacket in Navy would also be great!

  23. The Nencia dress looks great, especially with the cardigan. I personally love the Fayette dress in Merlot. So pretty for a nice dinner out.

  24. Yay for pockets! And the color combo on the lace dress is beautiful. I’m lusting after the Janus dress in pink pindot. Mostly because I like saying and typing “pink pindot”, but also because it would look great at work.

  25. Ooh, I like that Savannah on you in particular! Very stylin!
I have my eye on the Vintage Polka Dot dress for later in the season.

  26. Gorgeous! I must have the Letta Dress in Mandarin Rose.

  27. I really love the Savannah on you – gorgeous!

It is hard to narrow down my favorite to one. I love the nico skirt in midnight sahara (with matching top) and the jadyn maxi dress (I LOVE blue and purple!) My niece is turning 1 in a couple weeks, so a brand-new pretty dress would be terrific to wear to her birthday party.

  28. I did not think I would be a fan of the Nencia lace dress, but you look so great! I love how you paired it with the cardigan and the belt!

My work wardrobe could use some updating, so I would love to check out the Tavi top in Tropical, or the Nico skirt in Midnight Sahara.

  29. I have a fundraiser to attend in a few months and the Stella gown would be perfect to wear. it is exciting and the neckline is fun and demure at the same time.

  30. Great dresses and I love pockets too. But that said, I liked the first dress on you better. It looked like a fun outfit. And I’d probably choose that dress and the Tiffany dress for me as my choices. It sounds like you had fun with this and that’s great!

  31. Love that Nencia dress!

I think I would choose the Isis dress for work; my work wardrobe could use a bit of a pick-me-up.

  32. All clothes that can fit pockets should have them, they make life so much easier. You look beautiful in both of these dresses!

I really want the Linea Plus Size Maxi Dress in Vermillion. That color is gorgeous.

  33. Those are so cute on you! I have my eye on the Gisela

  34. […] warmer… do I look cold here? It was very cold.) I’d probably steal a page from Kelley, who also reviewed the Nencia, and throw a wide belt over the cardigan next time I wear […]
