Raffle #20: A Brief Introduction to Music At the Fringes

A selection of Weetaconner Chris’ writings about experimental, industrial, and noise music spanning the years 2000–2017. Many of these magazines are rare and out of print. In addition, Chris will include an MP3 disc featuring albums and samples of many of the acts he writes about so you can listen along as you read. [warning: some adult content]

The prize package includes:

Muckraker, issue #9 (2000): My first print gig, this includes a handful of reviews I wrote for the final issue of Patrick Marley’s much-missed zine. It includes a CD featuring many of the acts featured.

As Loud As Possible, issue #1 (2010): I co-produced this massive chunk of industrial/noise history and wrote about 40% of the content, including most of the record reviews in back. It’s the piece of work I’ve done in my life that I’m most proud of, and I’ve been trying to wrangle the sequel together for the past seven years. The MP3 disc will include copious tracks and albums by Putrefier, Schimpfluch-Gruppe, Zone Nord, XX Committee, The Haters, Storm Bugs, and more.

Fördämning, issue #6 (2015): Features my overview of LA-based sound-art project blackhumour, a mysterious unit which uses only the sounds of the human voice as source material.

Vulcher, issue #1 (2016): For you humor fans, I wrote about the Firesign Theatre’s much-maligned sixth album, Not Insane (Or Anything You Want To) (1972). I use a joke about Red Skelton to illustrate my point.

Vulcher, issue #2 (2017): Keeping with the theme of using editing and sequencing to alter your art, I look at “Mental Illness Punks” the Ceramic Hobs, who released their penultimate album Oz Oz Alice a whopping SEVEN different times. We look at the three versions I could get my hands on, and yes, they’ll all be on the MP3 disc.

Retail Value: $40.00
