Review of the IGIGI Mosaic dress and a giveaway!

Before I get to what you are most interested in — a review of a delightful IGIGI dress and the chance to win a $50 IGIGI gift certificate — please indulge my brief stand on the soapbox.

As we know, beauty does not come in any particular shape or size.  But, borrowing an apt phrase from Dorothy Parker, the images we see in fashion magazines and the popular media run the gamut of shapes and sizes from A to B.  Those images are frequently unhealthy and, for most women, unrealistic.  I found GNC’s recent “live radiantly” ad particularly appalling as it features a painfully thin, dour, waif-like figure with protruding collar bones who couldn’t appear less radiant.  I bet it’s hard to look radiant on a diet of lettuce leafs, ice chips and aspirations to be a size zero.  Passing off this look as healthy is par for the course for the modeling industry.  While the average American woman is a size 12 or 14, models larger than a size 10 are considered “plus size.”  IGIGI, founded by Yuliya Raquel, provides a powerful antidote to our confidence-shattering world of impossible ideals and contradictory messages.  IGIGI makes fabulous garments that fit real women.  At the end of the day, don’t all women deserve the chance to feel beautiful?

A number of attendees at Weetacon had the chance to feel gorgeous in IGIGI dresses during an informal fashion show.  IGIGI provided us with our favorite outfits and we modeled them for other Weetacon attendees.  My choice was the Mosaic (which is no longer available on the Igigi website, unfortunately, but its cousin is the Tour Eiffel dress, currently on sale! -wendy).  A black dress with contrasting trim at the neckline, waist and arms, the Mosaic is a fashionable and comfortable dress that travels like a charm.  Plus, it has pockets, which is always worth bonus points in my book.  Although I did like the dress, it would look even more fabulous on a woman who is a little more, ahem, endowed up top.

And, speaking of feeling beautiful, IGIGI is offering you, gentle reader, the opportunity to feel beautiful with the assistance of a $50 gift certificate.

To win, visit the IGIGI site, pick the garment that you would buy with your gift certificate, and tell us where you would wear it.  Post your entry by April 20, 2011 and the winner will be announced on this site on April 25, 2011.

  4. Hey Veronica! You looked oh-so-pretty! The Mosaic Dress is available under the “Final Cut” SALE tab on Igigi’s website…I actually ordered it recently and I’m excited to see what it looks like on me.

    Thanks for sharing your soapbox!

I’m lusting after the Bardot jacket and pencil skirt for work right now. If I win the gift certificate, that’s where I’m going! 🙂

  5. You looked gorgeous Roni, this was the first time I have seen the Mosaic and apparently you stole the show as it is no longer available. I think the wide neckline really showed your pretty skin and long, graceful neck to a perfect advantage. Lovely, just lovely.
If I were going to get a dress it would be the Tres Chic, but for a top, the Ishiko Top in Chocolate would be a go-to for almost any occasion.

  6. I love a dress with pockets!! Fantastic. And I think that Tour Eiffel dress is so cute. I’d wear it in Paris, with a beret, naturally, and sit outside at a cafe and drink chocolat and eat a croissant.

  7. I think I might need to get one of those Boulangerie dresses just because it looked so fabulous on everyone else. And wearing it would make me get over ym fear of wrap dresses!

And also, I love this picture of you SO MUCH!

  8. I would get the Boulangerie Wrap Dress in Richelieu Blue. Then I would travel to Paris and wear it at a real life boulangerie, because where else would you wear a Boulangerie Dress? I’ll be really appreciative that the dress is adjustable after I eat some pain au chocolat and macaroons.

  9. The Boulangerie Wrap Dress in Merlot Grape haiku:

    ‘A dress I could rock!
Wrap me in merlot grape cloth,
    Fashionable Me!’

  10. Hi Veronica! Gimme, gimmee, gimmee the blue Sachi!

PS you look fabuous in that dress.

  11. I think that dress is beautiful! I’m also drooling over this one: Champs Elysees http://www.igigi.com/plus-size-dresses/plus-size-casual-dress/champs-elysees-dress-in-black.html
I bet that would work on you as well… 😉

  12. You are so pretty! I would like to be pretty in the Sachi dress in merlot, while drinking merlot in a sidewalk cafe on a summer evening at the beach.

  13. I’d get The Boulangerie Wrap Dress to wear on date night with my husband.

  14. Veronica, I love the print on that dress. And you looked adorable at the fashion show.

I am sad that the Lapis Lazuli Gown is sold out in my size, because I love the idea of sparky blue. Damn I could make an entrance in that thing at a swank party.

  15. Gorgeous dress! I adore Igigi, I just wish their collections would be available for longer. Hate it when I get enough saved up and a favorite dress is no longer available. Le sigh. I’m determined to get the Boulangerie Wrap Dress before it vanishes. So classic and versatile. I’d wear it everywhere, just switching up the accessories and makeup it can go from day to evening wear. Love that. Thanks for the chance!

  16. You know normally I wouldn’t be into the whole print touches but that is flawless really..

  17. dang forgot the garment thing I would wear!

the gloria dress is fab! I might even wear it to work, but could definitely wear it out to dinner with my husband!

  20. I’ve always wanted to try Igigi but just never did. I love the Gloria Dress in Bordeaux. I think it would be perfect for a upcoming wedding I have to attend in June!

  21. I know that Yuliya is probably already FAR more busy than any one woman has a need to be, but I’d love her sense of beauty in garment construction to spread far and wide – even folks who are littler than the IGIGI size range still get caught in the meat grinder of the Beauty Industry, and (for me, at least) IGIGI is such a breath of fresh air after all of that!

However, fewer people who can wear IGIGI means a better chance for me, so I’ll take it while I can. As for me, I’m loving the Tres Chic – my daily life is a bit plainer than the wonderful pattern seems to call for, but it’s always good to live up to the beautiful things in our lives!

  22. I’m lovin the Vilenna Dress! I would wear it to parent-teacher night!

  23. The Mosaic looks fantastic on you! The collar shape frames your face so beautifully!

Thanks for hosting the giveaway : )

  28. Such a great dress! I’ve got my eye on the Elianne Top in purple or perhaps raspberry flambe to wear to work.

  29. I think the Boulangerie Wrap Dress is lovely. I would wear it to work (and maybe even on a date with my honey!) And I would look gooooooood, I’m sure of it!

  30. I love that dress on you, although you should have posted the jeans-jacket picture too! You were too cute!!

  32. I think I have posted everywhere that I want the Estrella so bad.
